Cometas en el cielo. Nuria Berdiales

The Kite Runner is undoubtedly one of the novels that has taken me to read.
Published in 2003, it is the first novel by American writer of Afghan origin, Khaled Hosseini. In my opinion, it is the beginning of a saga followed by "A thousand explendid suns" which I think it's certainly worthly to read.

On the backdrop of an Afghanistan war and previous to the Soviet invasion, it tells the story of the friendship between Amir (a child in the neighborhood of Kabul) and Hassam (a Hazara servant of his father). Amir wants to demostrate to his father, that he is a man, winning the championship comet Kabul, even at the costs of his friendship with Hassam.

The novel is narrated in first person by Amir, who now lives in San Francisco, but has the opportunity to return to their homeland and seek redemption to the betrayals of his childhood. It is a heartwarming story, a cry for friendship and tolerance, which leaves no one indifferent.

From my point of view, it is a good opportunity to learn about the ancient culture of the Taliban and the survival instinct that people develop in adverse conditions. Definitely a good opportunity to think about a lot of things our society takes for granted.

Nuria Berdiales.
